NY Islanders (20-17-3-1) at Vancouver (23-14-0-4)
Tue, Jan 8, 2008 10:00 PM ET
Pick: Vancouver -230
Bet on the NHL at Bodog Life
The Vancouver Canucks play host to the New York Islanders, at G.M. Place, for some hard hitting NHL action. When these two teams met up last year, in New York, the Canucks spanked the Isle 8-1.
The Vancouver Canucks have six wins in ten games after recently blanking the N.Y. Rangers, 3-0 at home. The Nucks got goals from Ryan Kesler, Daniel Sedin and Jason Jaffray. When the Canucks play teams they don’t regularly play, the game seems to be slow and defensive. Tonight could be the fifth consecutive win at home for the Nuckleheads. Their offense is averaging 2.6 GAA while their power play has struggled; they were 1-7 last week against the Rangers. G Roberto Luongo has added another SHO to his record with a 19-12-3 for a 1.97 GAA and 6 SHO. He has kept the Canucks from losing some must win games. With Luongo in net the Canucks have the 2nd best GAA and their penalty kill is ranked 11th, which has been playing really well lately. The top player for the Canucks is Henrik Sedin with 40pts and the top goal scorer is his twin brother Daniel Sedin with 19 goals. The Canucks are currently in 2nd place in the Northwest Standings and they’re 12-6-2 at home. They are 24-17 ATS and 13-19-9 O/U.
The New York Islanders have dropped three straight, two of those were OT loses. They were recently shutout by the Edmonton Oilers, 0-4, on the road. Four of their last ten games have gone the distance into OT. The Isle are one of the worst teams at scoring goals averaging 2.4 GPG and their power play struggles big time, hard to think with all the talent they have. G Rick DiPietro is 16-14-4 with a 2.55 GAA and a .909 SVPCT. One thing going the Isle way is that they have the 5th best penalty in the league, which will prove great against the Canucks power play woes. The top producer for the Isle is Mike Comrie with 33pts and their top scorer is Bill Guerin and Comrie with 13 goals. The Isle is currently 7-10-2 on the road and they sit in last place in the Atlantic Standings. They are 19-22 ATS and 13-26-2 O/U.
Bottom Line: It’s going to be a slow game until the two teams get a chance to feel each other out. Luongo always plays good against teams we rarely play. Could he nail another SHO?
Expect a low scoring game with the Canucks struggling power play going up against the Isle fifth ranked penalty kill. Go Canucks!

Rockets +2
Bet on the NBA at SBG Global
Houston just plays better against Eastern Conference teams especially the Wizards as they are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings in Washington. The Houston Rockets will try and win their third straight game on Tuesday night as the travel to Washington to take on the Wizards. The Rockets have played their last six games without Tracy McGrady who is expected to miss at least another week. They team has pulled together adn played more like a team without their superstar. Houston is 4-2 without McGrady and is coming off a 103-91 win on Saturday against New York.
Bottom Line: The Rockets have won four straight and 11 of 14 over Washington since the 2000-01 season. The Rockets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. the Eastern Conference. The Rockets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog. The Rockets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Rockets are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 vs. the Southeast.
