The Toronto BlueJays host the NY Yankees at the Rogers Center. This
will be the start of a 4 game series. The BlueJays and Yankees are
competing for a wildcard spot in the American League. The starting
pitcher for the Toronto BlueJays is Shaun Marcum (RP) (12-5, 3.37
ERA). Marcum is currently 5-3 at home with an ERA of 4.97 and is
2-0 in his last 3 outings with an ERA of 4.50. The BlueJays have
a home record of 42-27 and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. The BlueJays
recent woes can be attributed to a bad road trip they’ve been
on since Sept 3rd. The BlueJays do better at home and feel more
comfortable with fans on their side.
Tonight’s starting pitcher for the NY Yankees is Philip Hughes
(RP) (2-3, 5.33 ERA). Hughes is currently 2-1 on the road with an
ERA of 4.01 and is 0-2 in his last 3 starts with an ERA of 6.06.
The Yankees have an away record of 34-35 and are 7-3 in their last
10 games. The Yanks last 5 wins have been to losing teams with no
playoff hopes, easy wins.
Bottom Line: The Toronto BlueJays seem to perform
better at home and seem comfortable with pitcher Marcum at the helm.
The Yankees are going to have a hard time getting the pitching that
their used to, which means they’re going to have to pick up
their batting which might be hard to do against Marcum.
The secret for the BlueJays will be to get off to good start
before the Yankees get their relievers in the game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres open up a key series
in the National League West on Tuesday with both teams fighting
for the playoffs. San Diego goes with Major League Baseball ERA
leader Jake Peavy while the Dodgers counter with Esteban Loiaza.
The key to this game is Pevay who just doesn’t allow any runs.
His counterpart Esteban Loiaza is also very good at keeping the
runs down. Both teams are in the playoff race and runs will be hard
to come by.
Bottom Line: The Under is 4-1 in the Dodgers last
5 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Under is 13-6-1 in the Dodgers
last 20 games as an underdog.
Two great pitchers equals a low scoring game
