The Edmonton Oilers will host the Colorado Avalanche tonight at
Rexall Place. The Oilers have one win in their last six games, while
the Avalanche has lost their last two road games. The Edmonton Oilers
are a team in need of some offense. They’ve been outscored
10-21 in their last six games and they have a goal average of 2.1.
The Oil have no definite superstar goal scorers, instead they have
a team with minimal contributors. Leading the Oil in points are
Andrew Cogliano and Shawn Horcoff, with 8 points each. Goalie Dwayne
Roloson is currently 2-4 with a 2.87 GAA. Tonight’s game will
be the first time that Ryan Smith makes his return to Oil Country.
I wonder if oddsmakers have bets going to see if he cries like a
baby.
The Colorado Avalanche brings in a team with great offense with
players like Paul Stastny, Andrew Brunette, Joe Sakic and Ryan Smith.
The Avalanche has been in between goalies using both Jose Theodore
and Peter Budaj. Budaj has started 6 games with a record of 3-2
and a 3.34 GAA, while Theodore is 1-2 with a 2.97 GAA. Tonight’s
starting goalie will be Budaj. The Avs are awful on the road and
they haven’t won a road game yet.
Bottom Line: The Oilers will be saluting Ryan Smiths
return tonight and the Oilers are going to show him what he’s
been missing out on. The Avalanche has not won on the road while
the Oilers are 2-1 at home. Both home wins were against very tough
teams, the Flyers and the Sharks.
The Oil can play if the really try. Go Oilers!

Blackhawks are playing alot better of late. After struggling to put
the goal in the net for the 1st week and half of the season, they
have exploded in recent days with wins over the Avalanche & Leafs.
The off season signing of former Red Wing Robert Lang has given Chicago
some experience, and a well needed boost to their offensive production.
On the flip side, the Blue Jackets have struggled themselves of late.
They are coming off a dissapointing home loss to the Canucks sunday.
I think the best medicine for the Blue Jackets is going on the road
tonight at the United Center. They are 1-1 on the road, with an impressive
3-0 win at Buffalo friday night. Like Chicago, Columbus has a nice
array of veterans and youngsters. Jackets LW Rick Nash has 13 goals
and 14 assists in 24 career games vs Chicago. More importantly, both
goalies have struggled in their career vs opposition.
Bottom Line: Chicago's Nikoli Khabibulin had 2-3-1
record last year vs Columbus with a GAA(Goals Against Average) of
4.18. He is 4-3 with a shuout and a 3.39 GAA in his career vs Blue
Jackets. Columbus Goalie Pascal Leclaire has a 1-2 career record
vs Chicago with a 3.63 GAA. I see a nice offensive evening in the
"Windy City" tonight!
Final Columbus 4 Chicago 3
