The Vancouver Canucks welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to GM Place
tonight. The Canucks and Flyers have not met since 2005. The Flyers
have dominated the Canucks in the past, winning thirteen of seventeen
meetings, and have won the last five meetings in Vancouver. The
Philadelphia Flyers bring their new hot shot superstar Daniel Briere
into Vancouver. Briere’s recorded 3 goals and 1 assist in
two games so far. The top line of Briere, Gagne, and Knuble has
combined for five of the teams’ six goals so far. The Flyers
will have R.J. Umberger back in the lineup tonight for the first
time after he suffered a broken pinkie finger. He’ll be on
a line with J.Lupol and M.Richards.
The Vancouver Canucks bring in a hot power play, which just banged
in four goals during their last game against the Calgary Flames.
The Nucks will be without their best offensive defenseman Sami Salo,
due to a wrist injury and is not expected back all year. Goalie
Roberto Luongo has let in six goals in two games for a 2.95 GAA.
He’s played the Flyers 11 times in his career and is 2-5-1-2
for a 3.30 GAA. The Canucks will need to work on their face offs
after winning only 39% in two games. This will be critical if the
Nucks want to stop the penalty kill and score on the power play.
Markus Naslund looked much better against the Flames and he was
a major contributor in the Canucks over time winner against the
Flames.
Bottom Line: The Philadelphia Flyers will have
a better offense with the return of Umberger. In the Canucks last
two games Luongo has let in six goals which is unlike him. The Canucks
have proven that they can score and with a home crowd tonight they
should be good for a couple goals.
Look for the total score to be OVER 5.5.
