The new and improved Boston Celtics will host the Denver Nuggets
tonight, at the TD Banknorth Garden. The Boston Celtics have the
big three to thank for their recent boost in the NBA. The Celtics
recently beat the Toronto Raptors, 98-95 in O.T. Ray Allen contributed
33 pts, big boy Kevin Garnet was good for 23 pts and he helped out
big time pulling down 13 rebounds while Paul Pierce put in a measly
13 pts. Even though the big three are the bread and butter of the
Celtics, they aren’t that great on offense. They’re
ranked 12th in points for with 100 PPG. Where they really excel
so far is their defense. They are the best at stopping their opponents
in the paint and they allow the second least points against. They
allow their opponents an average 89 PPG. They also have the ability
to shut down the 3 point shots. They’ve only played two games
so far and they’ve got a long road ahead of them. If the big
three can stay healthy, they should be able to stay on top of the
Atlantic Standings.
The Denver Nuggets are coming off two losses in a row. They lost
on the road to the N.Y. Knicks, 112-119, then previously to the
N.O. Hornets, 88-93. Last games main contributors were Allen Iverson
with 32 pts and Carmelo Anthony with 24 pts. Marcus Camby didn’t
contribute points but rather contributed off the boards pulling
in 13 rebounds. One thing missing for the Nuggets is Kenyon Martin
who is day to day with knee problems. The Nuggets are good for 104
PPG, but somehow lack in the paint and with the 3 pointers. Two
things you don’t want to do against them are setting them
up for a free throw and don’t give them the chance at a rebound.
They hold the best records in these stats. The Nuggets are currently
in 1st place in the Northwest Standings.
Bottom Line: The Celtics are better on paper, but
they’ve only played two games so far. One thing going Denver’s
way is that they have more talent off the bench. Eduardo Najera
is an animal off the bench; he contributed 13 pts and 9 rebounds
during his last outing.
While Garnet or Allen on the bench the Nuggets will need
to attack. Let’s go Nuggets!

Sharks (7-6-1 overall, 1-3 at Home) coming in off home & home
split with the Kings over the weekend, are seeking to win only their
2nd game in 5 tries at HP Pavilion tonight. Stars(6-6-2 overall, 3-3-1
on the road) are in off an impressive 5-0 shutout win at Anaheim monday
night. Sharks are playing their best hockey on the road(6-3-1), and
struggling at home early on this year. On the flip side, Stars are
playing .500 hockey on the road and at home. In addition, we have
two stories within this game tonight. Stars Mike Modano is looking
to become the highest point total leader for American born players,
and Sharks Jeremy Roenick is seeking to score a goal and join Modano
& Joey Mullen as the only 3 American born players to score 500
goals in a career. Will it be tonight for both? History tell us that
Stars have won 5 in a row at San Jose, but i thi nk the home team
gets it done tonight a with a strong performance from team leader
Joe Thorton, goalie Evgeni Nabokov & Co.
Bottom Line: I like the matchup for the Sharks
forwards tonight. They should be able to open up the offense and
put 4-5 goals on the board. It won't be a walk in the park, but
the home team comes out with a much needed home victory. It should
be an entertaining game. Sharks take a bite out of the Stars!
Final: San Jose 5 Dallas 3
