The Detroit Red Wings make their way to the Saddle Dome to take on
the Calgary Flames tonight. The Detroit Red Wings are looking like
Stanley Cup contenders, again. The Red Wings are currently riding
a 6 game winning streak, with no sight of slowing down. The Wings
are averaging 3.5 goals a game and they lead the NHL in shots on net,
with 34. They don’t have the superb power play that their known
for, but it’s early in the season still. Their defense on the
other hand is trucking along just nicely. They currently have one
of the lowest goals against averages, averaging 2 goals against per
game. Thanks partly due to the excellent goaltending of Chris Osgood,
whose 6-0 with a 1.50 GAA. Dominik Hasek is temporarily out with a
hip injury. Their defense is ranked 1st in shots against, thanks to
the Wings defenders who aren’t afraid to get down and block
a shot. Henrik Zetterberg leads the Wings with 22 points, in one month!
He also leads in shots on net, with 71. The Wings are 5-1 on the road
and they’re currently in first in the Central Standings.
The Calgary Flames are slowly starting to get their game together
and they’re getting the offense that got them into the playoffs.
They’re good for at least 3.5 goals a game, thanks partly due
to the Flames power play. Their defense on the other hand needs some
work. They’re averaging 3 goals against, thanks to the shotty
goalkeeping of Miikka Kiprusoff who’s 6-3-3 with a 2.97 GAA.
Jarome Iginla leads the Flames with 19 points and he’s got the
most shots on net than any other Flame. The Flames are currently 4-2-2
at home and they’re 2nd in the Northwest Standings.
Bottom Line: The Red Wings are more than capable
of scoring goals against the Flames weak goaltending situation. Goalie
Chris Osgood has seriously stepped up his game and he’ll be
looking for another win under his belt tonight.
Detroit excels on defense, while the Flames struggle to score.
Let’s go Red Wings!

The Hokies come into Atlanta tonight an angry bunch over last weeks
late collapse in Blacksburg vs #2 Boston College. With a week to
prepare for the Yellow Jackets, i will go with Frank Beamer's ability
to exploit matchups on both sides of the ball, and on special teams
as well. Under Beamer, the Hokies are 38-12-2 ATS when playing with
revenge (FYI Va Tech lost last year to Yellow Jackets at Blacksburg
38-27). In additon, Hokies under Beamer are 14-5 ATS off a SU loss,
and boast a very nice 13-5 SU and 12-6 ATS mark in Thursday night
affairs!
Bottom Line: Ga Tech is a well coached team under
Chan Gailey, but the loss of TB Tashard Choice will make them one
dimensional, which only makes the Hokies an even better propositon
here tonight. Va Tech comes out of Georgia with a nice road win!
Final: Va Tech 27 Ga Tech 19
