Colorado heads to Chicago on Friday to begin a four game road trip
against the Blackhawks. The Av’s have started well this season
led by veteran Joe Sakic and center Paul Statsny. If the name sounds
familiar, it is. Statsny’s father Peter played with Quebec,
New Jersey and St. Louis and scored 450 goals in his career. His
son is sure off to a good start. Last year Paul finished with 28
goals and 50 assists in his rookie season. This year he has five
goals, eight assists and 13 points in six games. SBG
Global reports that early betting has the public taking
the favored Avalanche on the Road.
The Avalanche are coming off a huge comeback win on Tuesday as
they trailed 4-0 yet won in a shootout over Calgary 5-4. "It's
important that we play a full 60 minutes and we didn't do that today,"
said winger Ryan Smyth, "It wasn't what we had in mind, but
we'll sure take it any way we can." The Avalanche got a big
game out of goaltender Jose Theodore, who stopped all 17 shots he
faced in relief of Peter Budaj. "When you get in, it's never
easy, you're not as warmed up," Theodore said. "I was
trying to keep it simple, give my team a chance to win, and they
showed a lot of character coming back." It was the first win
of the year for Theodore. Budaj is 3-1 but he has been pulled in
two of his five starts and his 3.40 goals-against average is not
very good.
