Global Opening Line: Indians -133, Total 9.5 (-130)
Fausto Carmona will get his second straight start against the Detroit
Tigers as the two top teams in the American League Central meet
again this week, this time in Detroit. Last Wednesday, Carmona struck
out a career high 10 and allowed just two runs and four hits in
eight innings of a 5-2 win against the Tigers. Rookie Jair Jurrjens
gets the start for Detroit on Tuesday. SBG
Global reports that early betting has the public taking
the Tigers at home with a comeback of +111.
Carmona is now 14-7 on the season with an ERA of 3.16. He snapped
a three-start losing streak in his last start. He has pitched well
all season but doesn’t always get run support. "Whew,
Carmona was something," said the Tigers' Brandon Inge. "First
of all, he has an incredible sinker, but he's throwing a slider
and changeup for strikes, too. All night, I saw one, maybe two pitches
up in the zone. Everything else was on the black or at the knees
- and with movement." Carmona has won both of his career starts
in Detroit. On May 27th of this year he allowed three runs and nine
hits through seven innings of a 5-3 win.
Jurrjens (0-1, 5.14) will make his home debut for Detroit. He threw
104 pitches Wednesday over seven innings in his first major league
start. He gave up four runs and five hits with two walks and three
strikeouts. "I was in a fantasy world," said Jurrjens,
"This was the first time my dad saw me pitch (as a professional).
I recognized his whistle in the crowd. That was the best feeling
ever. I thought I pitched OK, but that Carmona was incredible. He
has the best two-seamer in the game."
