Houston
Rockets (25-16) at San Antonio Spurs (30-13)
9:00 pm Eastern
ESPN
SBG Global Opening Line: Spurs – 8.5
The Houston Rockets will try to stop a three game losing streak
tonight in a place where they have not done very well, San Antonio.
Houston did win earlier this season in San Antonio but it was the
first time in more than nine years. Repeating that victory won’t
be easy tonight since Yao Ming is still out of the lineup. However,
in a surprise twist, SBG
Global reports that the gambling public is all over
the Rockets plus the points – even without Yao.
Yao was big in that victory earlier this season because he held
Tim Duncan to only 14 points and it was the only time this season
San Antonio was held below 80 points at home. The Rockets have played
pretty well without Yao going 9-5 but they are currently on a three
game slide including a 121-113 overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets
on Saturday. "The last four games defensively, we're not willing
to do what it takes to win," said coach Jeff Van Gundy. "We
got exactly what we deserved. They got what they deserved because
they worked. And we got what we deserved because we didn't."
The Rockets usually have a great defense allowing 91.2 points per
game but that didn’t happen against Denver. Houston will need
a big game from Tracy McGrady tonight. He scored 26 points in a
92-84 home loss to San Antonio on Nov. 14th.
San
Antonio is an 8 point favorite with a total of 181 at SBG Global.
The Spurs are coming off a 93-89 win over the Boston Celtics on
Monday. The Spurs had a big lead only to let most of it slip away
before recovering. "Wins are wins, but it's frustrating not
to close people out," said Duncan, “It shouldn't have
been that close. We allowed them to get back in the game."
The Spurs have won seven of their last nine games overall.
The Rockets are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Wednesday games. The Rockets
are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. the Southwest. The Rockets don’t
do well on a lot of rest. They are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games
playing on 3 or more days rest. The underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last
6 meetings between the two teams and the road team is 5-1 ATS in
the last 6 meetings.
The Spurs are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a home favorite.
The Spurs are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 Wednesday games.
The Under is 7-1 in the Rockets last 8 Wednesday games. The Under
is 6-2 in the Rockets last 8 vs. the Southwest. The Under is 6-1
in the Spurs last 7 games as a home favorite. The Under is 5-2 in
the Spurs last 7 Wednesday games. The Under is 4-0 in the last 4
meetings in San Antonio and overall it is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings.
